A tragedy we are fighting to recover! A Devastating storm has left more than 5 people dead, demolished all houses in Kalangala, including the Central Police Station.
The storn commonly known as “Ensoke” hit the Central Police Station, locals in Kifuufu junction, several houses including that of the late Prisons Officer Ssemu Lwanga, leaving several Islanders dead.
Government of Uganda has so far dispatched a helicopter to go evacuate the affected people.
Also a team from the Uganda Red Cross Society is already on ground to ascertain magnitude of damage to ensure that URCS and the office of the Prime Minister through the Disaster Ministry offer humanitarian aid to the people.
The Deputy Resident District Commissioner for Kalangala Henry Ssebunya is currently engaging stakeholders to ensure that a lasting solution is offered to the affected people.
“It is sad that our people are suffering. We are working hard currently to ensure that the affected people first get assistance and shelter as we engage on a lasting intervention,” Ssebunya says.
This is not the first incident to destruct property in Kalangala.
