The rainy season is for planting crops. It is a wake-up call for food security and admiration for support to improve agriculture.
It is the same call, the Mpigi District Woman Member of Parliament Hon Teddy Nambooze is taking on. Hon Nambooze has deliberated seedlings to the people of Mpigi District to start on a drive that will see people plant maize, on top of other crops as part of their efforts to be better.
“A person who has and eats food is always energetic and can save. It is a rainy season, reason why I have brought the maize seeds. It should be a wakeup call that it is your duty to have food at home,” Hon Nambooze says.
The MP is also rallying the people in her constituency to also engage in the growing of other crops including sweet potatoes, cassava, beans, bananas and all other food items. “And we can grow alot more to sell to our communities that do not have where to grow food.” She added.
In Muduuma Sub County, the farmers were met in Buyala while in Kiring’ente Sub County, the MP met farmers to deliver the seedlings for planting.
Other farmers were met at the Constituency office in Mpigi town, Kammengo, Buwama Town Council, at the Sub County Offices in Buwama – rural, Nkozi Sub County offices, Kayabwe Town and Lwamikoma, in Kituntu Sub County.
“Let us all get to the gardens in this rainy season and plant dear friends. Even as a leader, I need healthy people who can also support me when they also have food.” Hon Nambooze says.
The MP called upon Mpigi dwellers who have children who completed senior six to join her in the “Tereeza Mpigi nga osomesa omwana wo mu busobozi bwo”, take the children for higher learning.
“You can bring the children to Tereeza wa Mpigi fashion and garment training center for at least they learn how to use a sewing machine and be competitive enough,” Hon Nambooze reiterated.
Mpigi will also celebrate the Women’s Day on March 25th where deliberations on how to end domestic violence, protect the environment among other things will ensure.
