Ugandans in the Council for Abavandimwe pledge 100% support for President

Museveni in the 2026 elections
Rwandans of Ugandan descent under the association Council for Abavandimwe have vowed to fully support President Yoweri Museveni in the 2026 elections, promising to give him 100% of their votes in appreciation for the good things he has done for them.

Led by their chairman Frank Gashumba, the group held a press conference at Serena Hotel in Kampala where they made the declaration amidst cheers and the display of placards praising the President, saying that for them, “if he loses, we all lose,” and that they are determined to defeat his challengers in the coming elections.

Gashumba explained that as Abavandimwe, they were once marginalized as people considered non-citizens and denied national identity cards and passports. But Museveni intervened and put an end to this injustice, which is why they now stand firmly behind him.

They noted that they had long been discriminated against in their own country, losing dreams, opportunities, and even lives because of various forms of exclusion. They said they knocked on nearly every major office in the country including Police, the Human Rights Commission, the Inspector General of Government, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, and even Parliament but they received no response.

Eventually, they took their grievances directly to the President, who consoled them, wiped their tears, and signed the 2025 directive that restored their rights. As a result, they are now recognized as full citizens, able to access essential national documents without restrictions.

Reading a statement on behalf of the group, Jackline Mbabazi said the Directorate of Citizenship and Immigration Control is already implementing the President’s directive effectively, though challenges remain with the Ministry of Internal Affairs an issue they hope will soon be resolved.

The group’s spokesperson, Justine Buchana, added that the Abavandimwe have consistently given Museveni 90% of their votes in past elections, and this time they are confident the remaining 10% will also go to him, as they rally their communities to support his leadership.

They thanked President Museveni for always standing with them and pledged to back him in the 2026 elections to ensure he wins again and continues leading the country.
