The President of the Democratic Front, Mathias Mpuuga Nsamba, has cautioned against efforts to undermine and replace formidable leaders who have been at the forefront of the struggle for years.
Speaking to voters in Nyendo Parish in Nyendo Mukungwe, Mpuuga highlighted that any attempt to oust key figures such as Kampala City Lord Mayor Ssaalongo Elias Lukwago, Busiro East Member of Parliament Medard Lubega Ssegona, and Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda from Kira Municipality would be detrimental to the opposition’s cause.
The noted that the forces and resources summoned to fight those individuals would be of great importance to the opposition if put to other areas occupied by NRM, warning that this fights in the opposition for those already liberated areas is likely to render those areas to the NRM.
He emphasized that for any struggle to be meaningful and produce tangible results, it must involve competent, tested, and capable individuals like Ssaalongo Elias Lukwago, Medard Lubega Ssegona, Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda, himself Mathias Mpuuga, and others.
This statement comes at a time when the leading opposition party, the National Unity Platform, is aligning a team of politicians to challenge Medard Lubega Ssegona, Elias Lukwago, Dr. Abed Bwanika, Joyce Bagala, Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda, and others.
Mpuuga urged the voters of Masaka City to avoid making Masaka a testing ground for inexperienced politicians, stressing the importance of electing competent leaders rather than choosing candidates based on political excitement
In the same way, Mpuuga urged voters to turn out in large numbers to exercise their constitutional right on January 15th to elect their leaders.
The country will, on Thursday next week, January 15th, go to the polls to elect the next president and members of Parliament.
