Another hailstorm destroys 15 households, crops in Kalangala

 

A hailstorm that occurred on Saturday morning in Kalangaka town has left more than 15 people suffering from dire effects.

 

 

The hailstorm destroyed properties from Bombo, along the main Lutoboka road through Kanyogoga Village to Mwena Landing site in the heavy down pour that occurred in Kalangala Town.

 

 

According to the Red Cross Branch manager for Kalangala Sylvester Ssemugenyi. Several gardens have been destroyed and several houses in Kalangala Town have had roofs peeled off.

 

 

“We estimate damages for about 15 people and luckily we have no fatalities. We are still working around the clock to get the right data,” Ssemugenyi said.

 

 

This is the third heavy downpour merged up with the dire effects challenging the people of Kalangala after the March 2025 fatal cyclone incident.

 

 

One occurred in Bukakata while another left properties destroyed on Lujaabwa Island towards Tanzania, in Mazinga Sub County.

 

 

The Resident District Commissioner for Kalangala Fred Badda has commiserated with the affected people and said, he is working with a number of stakeholders to ensure that people find help.

 

 

In March 2025, cyclone winds hit hard Kalangala Town leaving four people dead, 33 injured while displacing the Kalangala Police Barracks, among other people.
