Busiro County MP Matovu cries as court quashes his quest for election recount

Kajjansi Chief Magistrates Court has quashed a request for a recount for the Busiro South 2026 election results.

The Wakiso Returning Officer Tolbert Musinguzi, on January 16th, declared Kenan Opio as the winner of the 2026 election for Busiro South, prompting protests and anguish amongst other candidates including Charles Matovu.

Matovu rejected the results, alleging irregularities including security forces interference as agents were ejected from polling stations, missing Declaration of Results forms and vowed to seek legal redress, likely including a petition or challenge for a recount or nullification.

Matovu lodged a formal complaint at the Chief Magisterial Court seeking a recount of the election ballots.

However, the Kajjansi Chief Magistrate Doreen Karungi, on Tuesday this week, quashed the petition saying the petitioner lacked evidence to support the petition.

The decision of the court left Matovu dismayed with no option of seeking redress. Several accounts suggest, the Busiro South MP was left crying as his legal team remained pondering on the next course of action.
