Family struggling struggling to find Justice for lyched suspected Gays in Kagoma

Relatives and friends of Mr Destiny Sekuubwa and Allan Ssemuyaba, who lived in Kagoma are concerned for the delayed delivery of Justice to their siblings who were beaten by a mob, suspecting the two of being gay practitioners.

In 2022, a mob in Kagoma, Wakiso District, lyched Mr. Destiny Sekuubwa to death and left Allan Ssemuyaba with gross mob injuries after being found in suspected gay intercourse.

The government of Uganda, through the legislature, in the 11th Parliament made stringent laws against the Lesibians, Gays, bisexuality and the Transgender people in Uganda.

Amidst strong resistance from Human Rights activists, Parliament, under the steedwardship of Ms Annet Anita Among, the Speaker, in May 2023, passed the anti homosexuality act, making it culpable for Ugandans practicing the act with imprisonment.

However, the Act found an already charged society that fought against homosexuality. In 2022, upon the death of Sekuubwa, Kagoma residents remained charged, promising to also kill Allan Ssemuyaba who had only sustained injuries.

The families of both victims reported cases at Kagoma police post in Wakiso, seeking justice.

However, Rosemary Nakuubwa, a sister to the deceased told this website that it has become very difficult for the since the State prosecutors and Police lost their file.

“Police lied to us that they had sent the file to the Directorate of Public Prosecution. However, DPP says the file hasn’t been sent and cannot be traced. All we demand is justice for our people,” Nakuubwa says.

She now wants the office of the Chief Justice and to influence Police to offer the file for immediate prosecution in the courts of Judicature.

The Police Spokesperson Rusoke Kituuma, in Monday last week asked for more time to comment on the incident as he ascertains where the file is.
