Government of Uganda will give shs. 20 million to each of the families that had relatives killed by crocodiles and hippopotamus in Kalangala, Entebbe Post has learnt.
Government will also offer shs. 7 million to each person affected by the reptiles while compensation for damaged property will also be estimated and offered to different families.
This has been reached at in a meeting between the Office of the President in Kalangala and Officials from the Uganda Wildlife Authority in a meeting held in Kalangala on Saturday.
There has been an increased crocodiles and hippopotamus scare in the Island District, some residents being killed by the same.
More than seven people are reported to having been killed by the stray reptiles in places such as Ntuuwa, Bunjazi Island, Misonzi, Lulamba Island and around Bugala, the main island in Kalangala.

The Uganda Wildlife Authority, recently initiated traps that saw more than six crocodiles trapped and taken into custody at the Authority’s safe zones.
Also, a number of the reptiles have been trapped again on Sunday November 2nd on the main island reducing panic amongst Islanders leaving in areas with such scare.
The Assistant Resident District Commissioner for Kalangala, Kajubi Twahika Kironde, in a communication to the different island communities said, evaluation is still being done to ensure that all those affected by the reptiles can be compensated.
At the time of the communication, one island resident on Ntuuwa Island who lost her husband and children to the crocodiles had dragged Government to court to ensure compensation can be done.
Also, Islanders around Maboga, Mugoye Sub County have been struggling with Hippopotamus that have left many of their relatives attacked, killed while fishing in the hippopotamus risky areas.
