There is a growing rift within Sembabule District as candidates in Mawogola North trade accusations of mischievous behavior by several retiring leaders in the area.
The growing rift stems from the recent outbursts by former Mawogola County MP Sam Kahamba Kuteesa, who also served as the foreign affairs Minister saying he only supports President Yoweri Museveni and that the rest of the contestants in the different races are on their own.
Kuteesa made the deliberations while meeting the 30 NRM mobilizers from each village in Mawogola North, a few moments after the NRM candidate in the area, Sodo Aine Kaguta had met them.
Sodo who is President Yoweri Museveni’s young brother held the NRM party flag for the constituency after Sam Kuteesa’s daughter, Shartsi Musherure Kuteesa pulled out of the race, honoring the 2021 agreement between the two, Musherure and Sodo, mediated by both President Museveni and Hon Kuteesa.
During the meeting, allegations spured that Hon Kuteesa now supports Counsel Jet Tumwebaze who is an independent candidate, disregarding Sodo, the official candidate.

“If you are not Museveni, I am not supporting you. And if you are from NUP, just know that I am against you. Now that my daughter is no longer in the race, I have no obligation to support anyone except President Yoweri Museveni.” – Sam Kutesa, former Foreign Affairs Minister said, prompting anger.
On the other hand, Sodo was everywhere canvassing support for all NRM flag bearers within the constituency from the local council 3 level to the Member of Parliament seat.
“Sodo gave opportunity to others but, they now feel he should not be given opportunity now that he has the party flag. One side is being dishonest to Sodo, a man who honored his word five years ago,” one of the supporters told this website.
Mawogola North, is made up of six sub-counties namely; Lugusulu S/C, Mabindo S/C, Mijwala S/C, Sembabule TC, Kawanda S/C and Mitima S/C. Sodo, in his communication to all of the 30 leaders from the village to Sub County leves said, “this is a bid to re-energize the structures and also map out stronger strategies to mobilise support for the President and all NRM Party Flagbearers.” A position Hon Kuteesa detested.
It is not clear whether any action will be taken on the group as the trading of accusations within the constituency continues.
