Luuka NRM Women League Chairperson Annet Nabirye ready to battle opponents in District Woman MP race

The little time Annet Nabirye has spent on the political scene has proved that she is a force to reckon with based on her exceptional on-ground performance in Luuka District.

Ms. Nabirye, who recently secured the Luuka District National Resistance Movement (NRM) Women League Chairperson slot in the party structures, has revealed that she is ready to face off with her opponents in the district Woman Member of Parliament race come 2026 general elections.

A few days ago, the politician picked her nomination forms from the NRM Electoral Commission Offices in Kampala, expressing interest to run for the Parliamentary office.

She laughed off claims by some of her opponents who say that she will not be in the race. She described them as cowards who fear healthy competition.

Speaking to this news website on Tuesday, 10th June, 2025, Ms. Nabirye confirmed that she will be returning her forms to the NRM Electoral Commission Offices anytime and that she is all set to compete in the party primaries.

“I have all the necessary requirements to stand for any political office in this country,” she said as she showed off her academic documents and a letter from the NRM Electoral Commission Chairperson, Dr. Tanga Odoi confirming her particulars.

“I will endeavor to effectively represent the people of Luuka at all fora including local, regional, national and international levels. I will make my district visible and to shine in national politics through proactive networking,” she assured.

Ms. Nabirye who studied from government schools from Primary to Secondary level, has a Postgraduate Diploma in Human Resource Management from Uganda Management Institute and a bachelor’s degree from Makerere University Business School (MUBS).

Transforming Luuka socially and Economically:

Even before joining Parliament, Ms. Nabirye already has tangible development results in Luuka.

She has managed to lobby for the construction of tarmac roads across Luuka and she has provided maize and bean seeds in each of the 310 villages in the district; distributing a total of 40,000 kgs of seed.

Ms. Nabirye has also provided water pumps, hoes and other agriculture tools. This has greatly helped farmers to practice modern commercial agriculture which has increased productivity, household incomes and people’s standards of living.

On the other hand, the aspiring Woman MP has empowered youth groups with equipment like sewing machines and dryers, thus steering self employment, increasing income and improving livelihoods.

She has also used connections from the government to ensure that the irrigation scheme funds that had been recalled to the center were released for the district.
