As the public continues to demand Legislators to give thorough explanation about the 100m handout dished to out them by the President, Masaka region opposition MPs have remained tight-lipped about the so called evil money.
However much a number of MPs have come out to either accept receipt or distancing selves about the money, no Masaka region MP has publicly come one to explain about the public queries regarding the 100m handout.
MPs that have taken an initiative to use social media to say something about the cash bonanza have not agreed to have pocketed the money.
On Thursday, April 10th 2025, some opposition law makers led by the acting Leader of opposition Muwanga Kivumbi launched a signature commitment document vowing not to accept the controversial funds.
The Acting LOP Kivumbi, tasked MPs who had already picked the money to return it or else sign that they never received the money, a move that almost confirms that a number of opposition MPs has already picked up the funds.
Greater Masaka region has a total of 31 legislators across the nine districts and one city but many of them till now are hiding their faces from the media to clarify about the queries and others have called it blackmail.
Kyamuswa county MP Hon. Moses Kabuusu in one of his submission on “Kalangala Agakagwaawo” WhatsApp group said, him and the colleague MPs from Kalangala District have no clue about the money.
“As we go towards electoral season, a lot of publication will be made but just ignore, task your MPs to continue service delivery behind self regardless of whether any people are paid money or blackmailed.” MP Kabuusu said.
Some of the notable MPs that have always shouted on number of issues have till today said nothing about the 100m saga, an assumption that signifies that many of them have taken the money because they have not even signed the commitment document that was put forward by the Leader of opposition on Thursday.
These include; Hon. Mathias Mpuuga of Nyendo-Mukungwe, Abed Bwanika, (Kimaanya-Kabonera), Masaka City, Evans Kanyike (Bukoto East) Juliet Kakande, (Masaka City Woman MP) Veronica Nanyondo (Bukomansimbi District Woman MP), Kayemba Solo (Bukomansimbi South), Joan Namutaawe (Masaka District Woman MP), Christine Ndiwalana (Bukomansimbi North), Rose Fortunate Nantongo (Kyotera District Woman MP), Francis Katabaaazi, (Kalungu East), among others
Every legislator across the political divide walked out with 100m sourced from the 4trillion supplementary budget passed in March 2025.
Sources indicated that some MPs collected their funds from the office of the President on Level 4, while others collected theirs from Parliament Level 5.
Same Old Story
According to the historical analysis made by the daily monitor on Tuesday 8th, April 2025, MPs have always pocketed money but have always denied receiving such tokens which makes the 2025 release a same old story.
In December 2023, MPs were reportedly given 100m each to pass the 5.2trillion supplementary budget.
In June 2022, reports emerged that each MP received 40m bribe to pass the supplementary budget which contained 77billion for state house.
In 2017, 2011, 2005 and other corresponding years, MPs received tokens to scrap the age limit for presidency, mobilisation and removing term limits respectively.
Every five years each MP is given 200m for them to buy cars, plus a number of privileges ranging from medical insurance, fuel, gratuity, clothing allowances, allowances for committee sittings etc.
