Mbarara Journalists Celebrate as President Museveni gives Ugx 1 Million to each

A group of journalists from Ankole Western Uganda under the Ankole Journalists Association has endorsed President Yoweri Museveni’s sole candidacy for the 2026 elections after receiving significant financial incentives.

Each journalist received Ugx 1 million shillings, a Ugx 100 million pledge, and a van to facilitate their campaign coverage.

This endorsement took place after the press conference held at the big man’s country home in Rwakitura, Kiruhura District on Friday.

Fatwez TV, an online media run by Twesigye Farook, confirmed that selected journalists were very excited to receive Ugx 1 million from the President.

Grace Arinda, a radio West presenter said, even online media platforms were considered and all met the President and were happy.

Led by Acting Chairperson of the Ankole Press Group Ms Anita Matsika, a Senior Journalist in Mbarara said, the list may have been selected by Maj. Kiconco Tabaro who has been working closely with several stakeholders including her.

Wasswa Ali, a veteran journalist, thanked the association’s actions, stating that they should be allowed to enjoy the “token of appreciation” from the president.

He said that upon receiving the money, the majority of the journalists immediately ran to complete many of the projects they had started but stalled due to lack of resources.

However, others have indicated that the financial incentives will further help them improve their income generation as a people.

 

Eli Hakiza, a New Vision reporter at TV West, revealed that some journalists were receiving the Ugx 1 million for the first time and will ably highlight the impact of government programs and their successes.

 

Abraham Muganzi, a radio reporter, stated that many journalists also need to acquire ideological orientation for them to perfectly report about Uganda’s progress.

 

At the event, John Turinawe a presenter on Crooze FM expressed to the President, the financial and other challenges journalists have faced.

He said that they are committed to serving the regime through highlighting the development program achievements.
