Democratic Party Vice President Dennis Fred Mukasa Mbidde, in yet another outburst, said NUP candidate in the Kawempe North Bi election Erias Luyimbazi Nalukoola is a creation of the State and the Security agencies.
Mbidde said this while appearing on the NBS Morning breeze, a popular early morning talk show on the Ugandan Television airwaves.
Mbidde said the use of the State owned security agencies to arrest Nalukoola, his supporters, and disrupting his rallies has generated sympathy votes for the candidate in the eyes of the people of Kawempe.
“You know, when you begin arresting and releasing, without trial, you begin establishing a mechanism that makes the population realize that actually, the people that can disturb you well, are those that you are arresting.”
He added, “that sympathy support is intended to make choices to them, that this is your front runner.”
Asked by the moderator Simon Kaggwa Njala whether Nalukoola is a creation of the State, the Senior Politician said “He is a creation of state and, even before he was a proper candidate, he was arrested, muddled intro drones. Clearly, that was intended to tell that this is the candidate that wants to disturb the government, and clearly, that’s how Kampala people decide.” Mbidde said.
His rhetoric comes at a time when the country continues to not only insinuate but also accuse the National Unity Platform Secretary General David Lewis Rubongoya and a number of the party senior officials of being government installations into the opposition political parties.
During the 2021 campaigns, President Yoweri Museveni, while in Bunyoro Sub region, said, all the people in the National Unity Platform are his children, he is well managing from a far in the opposition party.
The Kawempe North Bi election attracted more than 8 candidates after the demise of Hon. Muhammad Ssegirinya who represented the area in the house.
The front runners in the race include Ms. Faridah Nambi – Kigongo of the NRM and Erias Luyimbazi Nalukoola of the National Unity Platform.
President Yoweri Museveni campaigned for Ms Faridah Nambi – Kigongo on Tuesday while NUP President Robert Kyagulanyi has spent days in Kawempe North campaign for Erias Nalukoola, the party’s candidate.
Voting is expected to take place tomorrow Thursday.
