Nama Wellness Community Center accused of Killing 5 months old baby

Police in Nama, Mukono is still investigating circumstances that led to the ‘irregular’ death of a five months old baby at Nama Wellness Care Center (NAWEC) about a fortnight ago.

The baby, whose father is Ronald Tenywa, a resident of Mukono Municipality, had been taken to the facility (NAWEC) for circumcision a service that is nolonger offered by the facility.

According to the baby’s grand mother, Robinah Namusisi, the health workers at Nama Wellness Hospital agreed to a service they no longer offer and charged collosal sums of money offer the service.

“They even invited us to have the circumcision at night as they did not want to do it officially since it was illegal,” Namusisi told this website.

She added that well as she is not sure of the kind of medication that was offered, “what was clear is that the baby was given an over dose of medicines supposed to help in losing senses to ensure that circumcision goes well,” she added.

Upon the completion of the service, the baby died instantly, as medics were left in panic, not sure of how to account for the death.

Pauline Keronyai Picho, the head of the facility who, at the time of the incident, was out of the country, communicated that the facility had phased out the circumcision of people since they had already lost donor funding.

Another staff member at Nama Wellness Community Center, Mr. Awumba Roger Mulumba confirmed to Entebbe Post that the incident happened in the facility and the administration of the community center reached an informal agreement with the family of the deceased.

“Only that the grandmother seems more emotional, but we reached an agreement with the deceased’s parents,” Mulumba said.

However, despite the agreement, a case at Nama Police was initiated under a general inquiry file to ascertain how the baby met their demise in an institution that never engaged in circumcision.

Well, as Police in Nama remain tight-lipped on the matter, sources within the community center told this website that it is not the first time the incident has happened.
