NRM elections: Tanga Odoi abandons voters in Irongo sub county, he is nowhere to be seen

This is an uproar in Irongo sub county, Luuka District after the National Resistance Movement (NRM) Electoral Commission Chairperson, Dr. Tanga Odoi abandoned voters who were supposed to take part in the fresh party election at the parish level.

Dr. Tanga was in the district yesterday to conduct a fresh election for only the NRM Women’s League of Iganga B village despite having nullified the whole voting exercise in the village which took place last week.

He took the voting to Waibuga sub county, 25-30 kms away from Irongo sub county where Iganga B is located, with no travel arrangements for voters. During voting, LC leaders were reportedly blocked yet they helped in identifying residents. After conducting an election for that particular category, he drove his car and left the venue.

Dr. Tanga also directed that nobody below 35 years of age would vote yet his own guidelines (used everywhere) allowed everybody of 18 years and above to vote.

Now today, the NRM Electoral Commission Chairperson further has abandoned the parish level elections in Irongo, thus leading to commotion and confusion among the voters, who are stuck and don’t know what to do next.

“As we talk, voters of Irongo parish are stuck at the sub county with Tanga nowhere to be seen to conduct elections at the parish level,” one of the local leaders who preferred anonymity informed this news website.

Currently, there are only 45 voters at the voting center.

The NRM party Registrar for Luuka district, Nelson Kikuri, has also called the party Electoral boss and informed him that there won’t be elections for the parish of Irongo today because one of the voters out of 45, Hon. Esther Mbayo (incumbent woman MP), is sick and that they don’t have security.

“The other voters who are already at the venue are now stranded,” the local leader said.
