Panic mode: Rubongoya, Bobi organize emergency delegates conference to evade court case

The leadership at NUP is in a panic mode after a petition was sent to court seeking an injunction and suspension of the party activities for not following the law.

This has been revealed by a member of the National Executive Committee of the party who asked not to be named.

The panic follows a petition by Mr. Moses Nkonge Kibalama and Ssimbwa Kagombe seeking the suspension of NUP party activities for not following the party constitution.

The two also accused the Rubongoya – Kyagulanyi leadership of disregarding major activities within the party leaving what they termed as an undemocratic process of the Party’s current President, Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu alias Bobi Wine to keep appointing people into powerful positions within the party and not having party grassroots and flag bearer elections.

Sources at the highest governing body at NUP – NEC told this website upon receiving the petition, the NUP high command panicked and engaged in a meeting that would find ways of evading being caught up by the law.

“They painfully agreed to hold an extra ordinary delegates conference which must be in place days before they send defense to court in this very case,” the source said.

It has been established that the party has given a four day notice to people appointed by the leadership at NUP to join a delegates conference on Wednesday this week disregarding the constitutional two weeks notice to delegates to join hold a delegates conference.

Multiple sources also told this website that the party is torn between holding grassroots and elections for flag bearers on grounds that they would not be influenced by the Party President who wants to appoint everyone he would love to hold the NUP card for the Parliamentary elections.

“That is why they even fight hard to have an election management committee to vet and appoint instead of having grassroots. It works on the directions of the principal and the secretary General, Lewis.” The source added.

Among other issues, the NUP high command is accused of also sidelining and abandoning the founder members of the party including Moses Nkonge Kibalama.
