Cyclone victims in Kalangala are now out of danger even when they are still in dire need of support, Kalangala RDC Hon Fred Badda has confirmed.
This has been after a series of intervention measures by the Office of the RDC, DISO, Uganda Police, the Uganda Red Cross Society and the Office of the Prime Minister.
On Saturday last week, Kalangala woke up to the news of a terrible cyclone storm that ravaged several households in Kalangala Town, leaving four people dead and 992 people homeless.
Also, 33 people were left injured. The Office of the Resident District Commissioner together with the diverse security agencies in Kalangala District immediately engaged government and different agencies to support the victims and evacuate those who were in dire need.
On Sunday, the Minister of State for Disaster, in liaison with the area Minister, Gen. Katumba Wamala and the Resident District Commissioner reached out to the communities communicating the intensified efforts by government to deliver humanitarian aid.
The Oil Palm Uganda Limited, Kalangala Infrastructure Services, Uganda Police Force, Brovad Sand Lodge and the Uganda Red Cross Society have already delivered up to 24 tons of maize flour, 11 tons of beans, 120 sleeper tents which can accommodate 400 people, 250 packs of assortment of home utilities to the people.
“We are still in dire need of much more. But we are also sure, all the remaining victims are okay and out of danger. We are thankful to all our stakeholders, especially the security teams that we have worked with,” Hon Badda says.

Also, area leaders Rajab Ssemakula, Helen Nakimuli, Julius Mukasa Opondo, Resty Nakawungu, CAO Frederick Ssemwogerere, Willy Lugoloobi, among others have donated personally to the same cause.
Currently, a detailed assessment report has been sent to the office of the Prime Minister for support quest while Government is processing commissary with the victims, especially the deceased as communicated by the Minister Lilian Aber.
Minister Aber communicated that the families of the deceased will receive Ugx 5 million each from the Head of State while the victims injured by the cyclone winds will receive Ugx 1 million each courtesy of the President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.
This is not the first cyclone to hit Kalangala. In January this year, a cyclone hit hard Bubeke Lwazi Landing site on Bubeke Sub County leaving fishermen counting loses.
