Rotaract launches construction of Kalangala Kids Park

The Rotaract Club of Kalangala Ssese Islands has launched the ground breaking for the construction of a kids’ park in Kalangala Town.

A kids’ park is a designated area designed for children’s recreation and play. It’s typically equipped with: playground equipment, such as swings, slides, climbing structures, soft surfaces with rubber mats or grass for safety, open spaces for running, games, and activities age – appropriate zones.

The parks offer benefits including physical development, encouraging exercise and motor skills, social skills, fun and creativity spaces for imagination and play.

The groundbreaking was made by the Ms Alebar Kanyonza, the District Rotaract Representative together with the Kalangala Ssese island Rotaract Club President Allan Mutagubya on Saturday.

The project is expected to be completed before May 2026 with a projected cost of USD 10,000.

The Kalangala Ssese Rotaract President Allan Mutagubya, during the launch said, kids parks are essential in the early development of the children as they transcend to skillful development.

“I cherish early childhood development, and so children attract my attention. Traders and customers in the market have no safe space for their children, this project is an alternative. Global trends dictate that a child 95cm tall should mirror themselves in the city plan’, this project could be a template for our town council and elsewhere,” he said.

The park will be the first of such kind in Kalangala. However, several leaders within the district who are privy to the project development say, there is dire need for the construction of the kids park.

The District Rotaract Representative, together with a number of rotaract leaders also donated up to 35 desks and 5 tables to Kinyamira primary school. Also 5 people were inducted into the club on the same day.
