Twaagala Ssema: Kalungu Youth chase Ssewungu from community function

The young people in Kalungu District have rejected Kalungu West Member of Parliament Joeeph Gonzaga Ssewungu was last weekend frustrated as the young people asked him to leave a play ground since he had abandoned them for a long time.

The youth said they were tired of his (Ssewungu) old tricks of only returning to the constituency during elections but abandoning them for a whole term.

The residents said they found new hope and solace in a man called Ssema.

Ssema, whose full name is Ismael Ssemakula, is a city lawyer born and raised in Kalungu. He has been engaging communities, buying and donating playgrounds, iron sheets, and constructing necessary buildings at church, schools, mosques, and community centers.

His work has been widely admired and supported by the local leadership and praised by the young population in the area.

“He (Ismael Ssemakula) is our only hope. We run to him each time we are in need and are now satisfied he is a leader we need. He (Ismael Ssemakula) has invested in us as a private citizen, and now, we must replace Ssewungu, who does nothing with him,” one of the young people told this website.

Ssemakula is seeking to contest as a member of Parliament for Kalungu. Even when he has successfully supported the community, the people are still thirsty of his such support and help.

In correlation, the people who gathered at the playground in Kalungu said Ssewungu had broken many promises and can not support development in Kalungu West.

Kalungu is located south of Mpigi District, about 90 kilometers from Kampala and north of Masaka City. It has a population that predominantly engages in subsistence agriculture and majorly fisherfolk.

Ismael Ssemakula has severally been donating farm products and accessories such as pumps that have supported them to practice agriculture as Ssewungu kept in Kampala, fighting opposition party wars.
