Uproar Entebbe Leaders sell new taxi park shops at Ugx 15 millioThere is an uproar in Entebbe Municipality, one of the oldest and most strategic towns in Uganda, as the leaders share shops in the newly constructed taxi park in Kitooro, one of the suburbs in Entebbe.

The taxi park, which was constructed at Ugx 11.5 billion by Government of Uganda became a contentious issue when all the 19 councilors at the Municipal Council awarded selves more than three (3) shops each, leaving the local dwellers without being awarded any shop.

Also, some of the Entebbe Division A councilors were also awarded some of the shops.

According to a report submitted before authorities at the Office of the Prime Minister, the councilors who awarded selves shops without due process are now selling each at Ugx 15 million, leaving many business owners unable to purchase them.

According to sources that were asked not to be named, four councilors have already sold off the shops and are now struggling to utilize some of the money they received for their personal benefit.

“One of the councilors sold a container and a shop at Ugx 22 million and has already purchased a second-hand car. All our leaders have chosen to let us down,” one of the dwellers in Kitooro told this website.

It has also been established that the Municipality leaders including the technical team are short of ideas on how to displace the councilors since some of the Technocrats engaged in the awarding of councilors shops without due process.

Well as the Office of the Prime Minister has confirmed its intent to intervene, the technical team wants to also evict all those traders with containers within the park.

Also those with more than one shop are expected to be evicted despite some having sold most of the shops expensively.

“Each person with a stall must provide a Memorandum of Understanding between them and the Municipal Council. Those who do not have them should ensure that they leave the taxi park immediately,” a Municipal leader told this website.

Sections of the Public wondered why all Opposition and NRM councilors joined together at the time they were benefiting from the public good.
