PLU’s Fred Rwakaizi nominated, Toyota to lead Campaigns

Fred Bangumya Rwakaizi, a prominent member of the People’s League Uganda (PLU), has been dully nominated by the NRM Electoral Commission to participate in the party primaries for one of the two EALA seats.

The nomination is seen as a significant boost for Rwakaizi’s campaign, with PLU National Vice Chairman Michael Nuwagira Toyota, President Yoweri Museveni’s younger brother, set to lead his campaigns.

Born in Bukanga, Isingiro district, Rwakaizi brings a wealth of experience to the table. He worked at the Parliament of Uganda for 12 years and holds a Bachelor’s degree in Education from Kyambogo University.

Notably, Rwakaizi is also one of the founders of the popular “Team Chairman” of the MK movement that later integrated into Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU)

The PLU endorsement is significant, given the party’s alliance with the ruling National Resistance Movement.

The EALA seats became vacant after Dennis Namara and James Kakooza were elected to the Ugandan Parliament. The by-election is scheduled for April 15, with nominations taking place on March 30-31.

Rwakaizi’s campaign is expected to focus on key areas, including alignment of regional and national parliament, free trade, and regional security. His experience working at Parliament and business ventures in Uganda, DRC, and South Sudan are seen as strengths.

Rwakaizi’s nomination has positioned him as a frontrunner, given his connections and campaign promises.
