Mpigi residents have been left angered, dismayed as Police, security agencies denied the district women from engaging, seating on chairs bought by their Women member of Parliament, Hon Teddy Nambooze.
Nambooze, together with a number of stakeholders had prepared a function for the women to celebrate their valuable efforts towards the betterment of the advancement of the female race and also, support children who are yet to begin school.
The function which had been organized in Mpigi town turned rowdy as officers from the Uganda Police fight against women using seats from Hon Nambooze, their Member of Parliament.
“Well as some resources had been deliberated to us, we thought it wise to use seats from our MP as we also use our resources deliberated from the different entities to buy food and other assortments. However, Police has denied us a chance to use the seats because they were bought by Hon Teddy Nambooze,” one of the women caught up in the fracas told this website.
It remains unclear whether Police will now allow a function that was organized long ago to to continue even the same Police had given clearance for the same function to take place.
“Our MP, Teddy Nambooze unites all of us. Politics will only divide us yet we need better services. Let us think beyond our political transgressions and find solutions to our communities,” said another Women leader in Mpigi.
The MP, Hon Teddy Nambooze has been the Mpigi District Women Representative in Parliament for the last 5 years.
She has been supporting women and children especially in acquiring skills and education. However, this latest outburst from the security forces clearly undermines the long scheduled work of improving the lives of the people in Mpigi.
Hon Nambooze, when contacted said, she wants Police to understand that after elections, the winner becomes the MP of all the people and not just a select few and thus, all security leaders should ensure that they collaborate to help improve communities “instead of fighting the development programs i bring.”
Police was not available for a comment by press time.
