Up to fourteen (14) people have expressed interest in replacing fallen Kalangala woman Member of Parliament, Hon Helen Nakimuli.
Nakimuli who died upon an unsuccesful surgery at Alexandra Medical Center on Sunday was buried at Kalagala – Luwero District on Thursday.
Upon her demise 14 people have already expressed interest in replacing her.
Amongst the 13 is late Nakimuli’s sister, Irene Nampala, Kalangala town Woman Councilor Irene Nakanwagi, Beatrice Nannyomo, Nakimuli’s predecessor Idah Nabayiga, Female affairs for the Young people Hellen Flavia Nagawa, Ms. Betty Nalujja, Sophie Kasavu, Agnes Namakula of the Democratic party, Ms. Roy Nakigozi Dembe, among others.
Also, Entebbe Post has learnt that the current District Chairperson elect for Kalangala Agnes Lunkuse, failed Ssembabule MP Goreth Namugga and youthful Jesca Nassiwa all want to compete for the same seat.
Others include Ms. Aisha Nantaayi and ONC Cordinator Harriet Namisango and Mary Goreth Namuddu.
The electoral commission, upon the demise of an MP has up to 58 days to replace the MP in Parliament.
Nakimuli had in January secured her second term as Member of Parliament for Kalangala. She however died prior to swearing in for a second term.
The islanders have expressed need for a bold representative who can ably transcend Nakimuli’s ideas further.
They now want to hold a debate of all candidates to understand the visions they hold for the islanders for future development.
