At the Gen MK 52nd Birthday 10km Run held on 26 April 2026 at Kololo Independence Grounds, the message “Run for Charity, Run for Hope” was not only heard—it was put into action.

The event, organized by the Patriots Club and the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU), brought together thousands of Ugandans to raise funds for vulnerable children and babies’ homes, while promoting fitness, unity, and national service. Chief Runner Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba was represented by Rt. Hon. Thomas Tayebwa.

Amid the energy of the run, Hon. Adrine Kobusingye, National Chairperson of the NRM Women’s League, stood out for a different kind of contribution. Rather than taking to the track, she enabled others to participate by purchasing and distributing running kits to women across the country—particularly those from rural and underserved communities.

Her gesture addressed a practical challenge that often limits participation: affordability. By removing this barrier, she ensured that more women could take part with dignity and confidence. In doing so, she gave life to the saying, “action outweighs words”.

Hon. Kobusingye’s intervention is consistent with her broader record in women’s empowerment. A business leader from Bushenyi and founder of the Igara-Buhweju Tea Farmers SACCO (IGABU), she has supported thousands of women to access sustainable incomes and improve their households. Such efforts have strengthened her standing as a leader closely connected to grassroots realities.

Her support for the run also highlights a deeper link between women’s empowerment and child welfare. When women are equipped and included, families are more stable, and children are better supported. The event’s charitable focus therefore aligns naturally with her long-standing priorities.

In a country where community participation is often shaped by access, small but deliberate actions can have wide-reaching impact. By equipping women to take part, Hon. Kobusingye reinforced the principle that inclusion is essential to national development.

Her role at the MK Run may not have been on the race track, but it was firmly within the spirit of the event—practical, purposeful, and people-centered.

Run for Charity. Run for Hope.
