EC sets June 24th as election day for Kalangala Woman MP seat

 

The electoral Commission has set June 24th as the election day for the Kalangala District Woman MP.

 

This has been announced by the EC Chairperson Simon Byabakama who is in Kalangala to make cases on thd by election.

 

The position fell vaccant last month after the demise of the then MP Helen Nakimuli.

 

Late Nakimuli had been elected for a second term in January and was set to swear in as Kalangala District Woman MP in May.

 

 

The Electoral Commission has also set June 10th to June 11th as nomination day for candidates while campaigns are set to begin on June 12th until June 22nd.

 

 

The Commission has asked all duty bearers and the People of Kalangala at large to maintain Law and Order.

 

 

Several candidates including NRM’s Idah Nabayiga, Ms. Hellen Flavia Nagawa, Jesca Nassiwa, Irene Nakanwagi, Ms Roy Nakigozi Dembe, Journalist Maria Nakitende, amonng othet candidates.

 

 

The lead security agency during the election period, the Uganda Police have also been asked to maintain Law and Order.

 

Islanders have however complained that they have been given limited time to engage the population in campaigns for the by election.
