Strong cyclone winds have ravaged Bubeke Lwazi fishing village, in Bubeke Sub County, Kalangala District, for the third time in two years.
The winds have destroyed property worth millions with more than 120 people homeless.
The Sub County Chairperson for Bubeke Charles Kalemba who also lives at the Landing Site told this website that the incident happened on Wednesday morning as islanders woke up for a days work.
“We call upon all stakeholders to come and support our people who are now displaced and with no reliable source of income,” Mr. Kalemba said.
This is the third time the cyclone winds are destroying property at the landing site. Last year, the winds destroyed property worth millions, luckily. They recieved a handful of support from the Office of the Prime Minister.
Last month, the residents were yet again affected by fire that gutted the landing site and left several injured while more than 60 were left homeless.
The area MP for Kyamuswa County Hon Birungi Carolyn Nanyondo recently wrote to the office of the Prime Minister requesting for support for the affected communities.
The cyclone winds had last month also ravaged Nakibanga landing site in Kyamuswa Sub County and left more than 130 people homeless.
Environmentalists in Kalangala District recently said, the increased number of such cyclones is a result of the rampant forest and environment degredation taking place in Kalangala.
